Los Arcos is a protected marine park and the most popular Puerto Vallarta diving spot. Below the surface is a massive 200 ft wall called the Devil’s Canyon that juts out towards the Bay of Banderas. The dramatic beauty of this Puerto Vallarta canyon, which drops off to 1500 ft, is world famous.
El Acuario is the most popular shallow dive in Los Arcos. It is suitable for beginners and those looking for a relaxing dive. The aquarium gets its name from the huge variety of tropical ﬁsh, including moray eels and seahorses, that will be encountered in this ﬂat-bottom dive.
A night dive to discover the bio-luminescent beauty of eels, octopuses and lobsters is a Puerto Vallarta experience not to be missed.
La Puntilla is the place to go if you’re looking to dive off the beach. It’s located near Mismaloya, 15 minutes from Puerto Vallarta. You will be able to ease your way gently in the sea to about 80 ft and enjoy the rich marine life, including tropical ﬁsh, moray eels, turtles, manta rays.
Mahajuitas is a secluded Puerto Vallarta diving cove located on the south side of the Bay of Banderas that can only be reached by boat. Although it is not a protected marine park like Los Arcos, there is still plenty of underwater life to explore. There is a nice white sand beach to hang out between dives or for the non-divers in your group.
If you can choose only on Puerto Vallarta diving location, Las Marietas is the one. The abundance of tropical ﬁsh near the caves, humpback whales and dolphins make this a Puerto Vallarta diving experience not to be missed.
Puerto Vallarta Diving Spots for Experienced Divers
El Morro is perhaps the most secluded Puerto Vallarta diving spot and is considered one of the best. Located 26 miles off the coast, it can only be reached by boat. El Morro is a premier Puerto Vallarta diving site to spot wildlife like rare whale sharks, dolphins, humpback whales, sailﬁsh and big manta rays.
The 7 hour dive tour to Las Caletas is ideal Puerto Vallarta diving location for experienced divers and underwater photographers. The tour includes transportation, dive gear, lunch and drinks. Just bring a towel and sunscreen.
Chimo is a site known for a series of pinnacles that rise from the ocean ﬂoor and is only for experienced divers.
This Puerto Vallarta diving trip is not for the soft hearted. The two hour journey by boat each way is the best place for pelagic diving and is also a top deep sea trophy ﬁshing spot. There are walls, numerous caves and steep arches which attract a huge variety of marine life. It’s not unusual to see a 1000 lb marlin or 400 lb tuna.
