Thanksgiving is often a meal shared in the US with family after a day of travel. And if you are fortunate enough to have those travel plans take you to Puerto Vallarta, don’t worry you will get your Turkey. Remember the delicious bird is native to the Americas.
With many of the resorts in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit all-inclusive guests can usually expect a traditional Thanksgiving dinner option, but for those looking for a restaurant and dine out, here are three choices I’d consider.
Trio
When I visited this downtown Mediterranean restaurant operated by a German Chef, I felt at home. The large round tables on the second floor were perfect for a family-style meal and led to sampling of many quality wines. Yet, the highlight was something simple and a staple to my Thanksgiving dinner menu even though I didn’t visit on the holiday.
I ordered lamb chops, hard not to when I see them on the menu, and the dish was served with mashed potatoes. And as I took a bite of the potatoes I personally tasted Thanksgiving. I later confirmed with the chef that the restaurant used one of my family recipe secret ingredients. Delicious. (You can find a review of my meal here)
Tip: Best mashed potatoes I’ve tasted in Mexico. And after Turkey what is most the important staple on your Thanksgiving plate – for me it has always been the mashed potatoes.
Le Kliff
I am thankful for many things in life. Travel, sunsets, and great food all make the list. And all can be appreciated on a trip to Le Kliff.
So, if you want to make a trip out of your Thanksgiving – the scenic coastal cab ride south of the city can build an appetite. And in my experience, the food matches the quality of the best restaurants in Puerto Vallarta, but few can compete with the views of the Bay of Banderas.
Tip: Watching a sunset at Le Kliff can be the perfect break between dinner and dessert. I’d time the visit. You can see my view of the sunset here.
Vista Grill
With “Vista” in the name you can imagine the restaurant does provide a view and I can tell you panoramic view is stunning. But Vista Grill also seems to represent elegance, a fine dinning. And although I’d wear a jacket (white linen) on Thanksgiving at any restaurant (not required) in Puerto Vallarta I’d probably be in the most similar company here. It’s the vibe. It seems to be a more “city” style (my opinion).
Tip: Although the view is magical all day and night, this is the best option for a late dinner. The view of Puerto Vallarta below at night is best.
Now these are just three locations serving Thanksgiving dinner, there are plenty of other dinning options in the city. Have a great meal, and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
