Puerto Vallarta Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is regarded by many people to be the best vacation spot in all of Mexico.  It is bordered on its western side by North America’s second largest natural bay, the Bay of Banderas.  On its eastern border, the breathtaking Sierra Madres rise up to form a scenic backdrop to a setting that combines the most traditional elements of Mexican culture to the most opulent luxuries of resort living.

One of the first things that people notice when they come to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is the richness of the local culture and the strong emphasis of tradition integrated into the opulence of modern luxuries.   The Old Town portion of the city is only minutes away from the Hotel Zone and provides one with a genuine view of authentic Mexican culture as it is without the trappings and glitter of stereotypical tourism.  Small towns located nearby are just a short drive away.  San Sebastian, a mining town built in the 1700s, offers a blend of history and the simple life of the 600 locals who still inhabit it.  Another must see is the town of Tequila, after which the world-famous drink is named.  Only a short drive away, visitors can see the agave plants from which the liquor is made.  The rich tapestry of local culture is almost dreamlike at times, making every night like Richard Burton and Eva Gardner’s “The Night of the Iguana” which was filmed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The water in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is some of the best in all of the country.  The Bay of Banderas along which PV is built is actually the second largest natural bay in North America.  Vacationers can choose from over 40 beaches that line this bay.  Northern beaches have water conditions that are ideal for a variety of water sports including parasailing, surfing, snorkeling, and scuba diving.  Southern beaches are more remote and romantic.  Some are only accessible by boat, and many lie within coves formed by mountains that come all the way down to the sea.

Art and music are everywhere in Puerto Vallarta.  There are live concerts featuring all types of music.  Local sculptures and artists set up displays on the beaches.  Hundreds of exhibitions and performances can be found on any given day throughout the entire region, with heavy tribute paid to the local indigenous culture.  Arts and crafts are in abundance, and both pre-Columbian religion and Catholicism are equally honored as key contributors to the culture and history of Mexico.

Golfers will find courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Weiskopf among the 7 championship layouts in the area.  Some of these courses lie right up against the Sierra Madres.  Other are literally designed with elements of the jungle as part of the fairway and greens, making Puerto Vallarta golf courses some of the most challenging in Mexico.  Five major tournaments are held here each year, including The Ford U.S. Collegiate Golf Championships and the PGA Golf Classic Champions Tour.
